Barium carbonate (BaCO3) is an alkaline earth flux, active primarily at high temps which can be used as a primary flux in glazes to produce satin matt surfaces and can be used with boron to create glossy surfaces. It has a decomposition temperature of 1421C, and when used in the raw glaze batch, some may persist after the firing.
