Black copper oxide (CuO).  A colourant and flux. Versatile colourant, used to produce greens, turquoise, copper reds, and raku copper lusters and matts. Melts at low‐fire temperatures, volatile above about 1877 deg F, and become more volatile at higher temperatures.  At high‐fire, it may fume adjacent ware.
