Manganese Dioxide (Mn02) is the most common source of manganese in glazes; insoluble in water. It decomposes to MnO at 1080C.  Below 1080C, it produces blacks and purples, and is refractory. Above 1080C, it becomes a flux and produces browns (purples if no alumina is present).
